PARKHEAD PARANOIA

PARANOIA, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is a mental derangement, which, especially in chronic forms, is characterised by delusions.

I thought it would be useful to clarify the exact meaning of the word before exploring examples of paranoia raging around various websites in the last few days.

It would seem Celtic supporters are deluding themselves into believing the club they support has always been treated badly by the Scottish Football Association.

Indeed, the Celtic Underground site went so far as to say that the SFA has always been governed by people with an anti-Celtic bias.

That is a serious allegation. It is also  the delusion of chronic paranoia.

For a start, of all the people who are both employed by the SFA , and who make up the reprepresentation from clubs and other bodies, who would appear to be the best paid.?

That might well prove to be Eric Riley, who is the Celtic executive director of finance, and who earned, according to accounts in the public domain, £222, 765 last year. That's more than new SFA chief executive Stewart Regan has signed up for.

Riley has been the Glasgow Association's member on the SFA for many years, and sits on two of its most powerful bodies. He is vice chairman of the Disciplinary Committee and a member of the Appeals Committee, and has previously been the vice chairman of the General Purposes Committee, which has a wide range of powers..

There is of course nothing wrong, or in any way improper, about that. In fact, it is both right and proper that a club such as Celtic should be represented and have its voice heard at the highest level of the game.

Celtic supporters though, blinded by their delusions, cannot see the influence Riley has at that rarified level.

They also seem to be suffering from amnesia. For instance, though the latter half of the 1990s and into the 21st Century,  a Celtic director - indeed a one time Celtic chairman - Jack McGinn, sat at the pinnacle of Scottish football's power structure as the President of the Scottish Football Association.

Such was his power that his reign extended even beyond the normal two terms in office. A sort of SFA FDR is you like.

McGinn was therefore one of the most powerful and influential figures in Scottish football....ever!

The Scottish Football Association, over which former Celtic chairman McGinn ruled for longer than other presidents, and where Celtic's highly paid director of finance, Riley, sits on one powerful committee, is the vice chairman of another, and has occupied that position on a third, can therefore not be said, by any rational person, to be governed now, or in the past, by people with an anti-Celtic bias.

To go even further back, probably the most influential of all Scottish Football Association presidents I can recall was that towering figure from Celtic's history, Bob Kelly, whose trenchant statements in the 1960s were viewed as the authentic voice of Scottish football.

In fact, both then and now, it could be claimed that of all of Scotland's major clubs, Celtic have been the most influential .

And yet the Parkhead paranoia continues, with a letter from Joe O'Rourke of the Celtic Supporters Association on that group's behalf, and also speaking for the Celtic Trust, the Affiliation of Registered Celtic Supporters Clubs and the North American Federation of Celtic Supporters Clubs, having been sent to Celtic saying that they are all 100per cent behind Celtic's campaign.

What campaign would that be? For we have heard nothing - open and above board and on the record - from either Celtic chairman Lord Reid, or chief executive Peter Lawwell, about any Celtic campaign.

It was a point well made in his Monday column in the Record by Jim Traynor when he called for these two powerbrokers to make a statement.

Celtic's fans have shown no such reticence, and the Celtic Supporters Association went on to reveal that a number of organisations of Celtic supporters hope to meet in the next few days to discuss and decide on the way forward.

As for Celtic Football Club, it will be represented at Hampden later this week as part of a previously arranged meeting between the clubs and the SFA.

It is not known if Celtic director and SFA member Eric Riley will ride the two horses at the meeting, or if Reid or Lawwell will attend.

Hampden is also the venue for some wild calls out there in cyberspace for Celtic supporters to descend upon and stage a protest  on Saturday.

There is though one website point which  deserves careful attention and thought. The Huddleboard claims  Celtic supporters have been denied an independent investigation into refereeing in Scotland.

Actually I think such an independent probe would be a good thing, as I am sure its findings would once again reveal the true level of paranoia.

It would have to be conducted by someone with impeccable refereeing credentials, who understood written and spoken English, in order that there could be no misunderstandings. England therefore appears to be the obvious place to look for a likely candidate.

Maybe someone like....Jeff Winter?

This is a "restricted paranoia" that only appears when Ra Sellick are not winning anything and is a line peddled by the most influential people within their club who use it to mask their limitations.

Celtic have been downsizing for a number of years hence why they didn't finish Rangers off at the peak of our financial troubles - because they couldn't! Despite their protestations and talk of "bank debt" we all know financially they are in a mess and without Champions League football for 2 years and probably a third they are in meltdown.

However rather than be honest - oh the irony - Reid and Liewell appeal to the lowest elements of their support the IRA supporting, UK hating bigot rather than the many fine upstanding fans of the club who know the mess they are in.

Anyone who disagrees is targeted in anyway they can just to have a patsy to take the blame a la Lee Harvey Oswald.

Deny and Deflect has been the Sellik way for many years but now it appears to Deny Deflect and Attack - thank god I'm a bluenose

Mr Leggat,
have a look at some of the Rangers supporters websites, and you will see that after every game where not everything go Rangers' way, we are treated to "paranoia" from the blue half of Glasgow too.
Labour are all Catholics and will do whatever they can to help Celtic
BBC = Biased against all things Rangers
The Mhedia - Controlled by Taigs
Some referees - Work in Taig bigot factories etc etc

Oh, and Jeff Winter?. Do you honestly believe he would be the best person to conduct an independent probe?
Look at his website, and see his references to Children in his recent match report on the last Old Firm game.
You are having a laugh?

Just loving your work Sir. The Bheastly hordes from the Girodome are a sick tribe who should be banished from Scottish society and football for good. They are fascists, who won't be content until they totally terrorise anyone not Sellik minded. (Catholic bigots - Fergus McCann)

Where is the condemnation from our cowardly politicians about threats and InTIMidation now occurring most weeks? Remember these self same politicians all running to make their voices heard over the Famine song, but refuse to get involved when real threats and violence occur?

The Sellik minded won't be happy until Scotland is a vicious backwater, where people are inTIMidated into doing as the Sellik minded bigot wants.

They truly are Fascists in all sense of the word.

yes they go strangley quiet when they are winning , there is an intersting video on youtube of dubious decisions going against Rangers at Ceptic park but as with all things Rangers are dignified and accept that human errors occur and if the team had played better the outcome could've been different but to the other lot across the city , its always someone elses fault .

they won't be happy until they can hand pick which refs they want to officiate their games ....

They'll only be happy when the can pick match officials such as Gerry Adams,Martin McGuinnes The Guilford 4 and the Birmingham 6

Don't you just love how obsessed with Rangers the Bheasts are? They must spend every waking hour being offended, thinking of Rangers and wallowing in self pity. So, Eric Riley is doing the dirty against the Rangers and these urban terrorists, still think they get a raw deal?

Ireland's shame should leave our shores and join another football association.

Personally I'm loving all this. Once again The Bheasts are showing themselves to be the most mentally deranged collection of paranoid cretins in the history of sport. Football fans in Scotland, and indeed now all over Britain if a recent Guardian article is anything to go by, are pissing themselves laughing at these morons. They are the most ridiculed (not to mention battered) set of football fans in the British Isles.

Keep it up Bheasts. Your paranoia, your kiddy-fiddling and your poppy-seller banning. Let the world see you for exactly what you are. Scum.

At 2 November 2010 13:04 , Anonymous James Molloy, Lincolnshire said...

One other small point. The Bheast claims the SFA are against them. That'll be the same SFA who allowed a lowlife like Jack McGinn, who covered up 20 years of paedophilia at The Theatre Of Shame, to run the show for all those years.

Bheasts - If they didn't exist, we'd have to invent them. They are not normal people.

No Shame No Integrity Celtic FC are without doubt the most vile, horrible, amoral football club in the world. Their directors Dr John Reid and Peter Lawwell have dragged that club down to a new level (if that can be possible) banning the Poppy from the club confines is shocking and should be brought to the government attention. For an ex cabinet minister to be associated with such a decision beggars belief. Then to see him in front of the TV cameras wearing his Poppy, shows him up for what we all thought he was an hypocrite of the highest order. But then again hypocrisy and Celtic FC are fine pair of bed fellows. Shame again on you Dr Reid and Celtic FC.

Exemplary article as always Mr Leggat, such a shame your talents are consigned to a corner of the internet instead of being embraced by the mainstream Scottish media. Therein lies yet another example of the real bias within our society perhaps, a topic I have no doubt you will train your razor-sharp sights upon in due course I suspect?

Jeff Winter to chair an independent probe is a marvellous suggestion - the man is a beacon of intellect and common sense. Some cynics have suggested that his newly-developed fascination with The Rangers is based on a desire to corner the market in after-dinner speaking opportunities at the many supporters clubs of the Scottish champions - what an outrage!

Following the recent Old Firm match I was shocked that no additional disciplinary measures were taken against the bald-headed thug who so brutally assaulted that most delicate of an footballers, the cultured Kirk Broadfoot. And they claim the bias is against them?

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

One needs just read blogs and newspaper comments, to see how obsessed with Rangers, the Sellik minded are. I'm sure most Gers fans are familiar with the old saying "They hate Rangers, more than they love Ra Bheasts"

They truly are a despicable race of people.

There are no depths to which the paranoid ones will not stoop to further their warped aims. The rabid bheasts that populate Sellik Sty are easy meat for manipulation by the propaganda machine of Reid and Liewell. They fall for it every time and act predictably, just like the majority of the Scottish Mhedia.

Shiting themselves about a level playing field i'm thinking.

Treated badly by the SFA? Because they did not handle the "Fortune goal" - affair according to what the Hoops think? Because they did not red-carded McCulloch post-match? Now wait. They charged Lafferty and McGregor nano-seconds* after games and had both banned. (*Compared to Looven's challenge on Edu, which took them 5 month to decide upon.) They failed to act on Vennegor of Hesselink's antics against Faye, O'Gheady's diving which sent McCulloch to the stands, McDonald's assault on Wilkie that essentially ended this footballer career ... yeah, that is what you may call badly treated. Only if you suffer from the Disfunctional Reality Perception syndrome though. The outcry of Rangers about the lack of support shown by the SFA with regards to e.g. the challenge that put Jelavic out of action for four months are rather muted though. Not splashed across the backpages ... mainly because Rangers grudgingly accepted it. As do other teams who suffer and gain from refereeing decisions over the cause of the season. Only one club in the SPL is pressurising refs, pre- and post-match, wanting explanations for each and every decision that goes against them. You know who!

Sayest Der Berliner of FF
