CELTIC TUNE HITS A BUM NOTE
ONE can only wonder if the ghost of Sir Alexander Gibson is stalking the boardroom and dressing rooms of Parkhead and Lennoxtown.
And ponder if the legenadary conductor of the Scottish National Orchestra is even joined by the spirit of Sir Henry Wood, the man who founded that most British of musical institutions, the Proms.
For it certainly may appear to some, that there is a presence within Parkhead, wielding the baton and orchestrating a symphony in Major moan.
Gary Hooper was the latest soloist to step up to the mic and blether about how put upon Celtic are. In doing so, we saw things move from one end of the scale to the other.
Billy McNeill had used his column in the Sun to once again claim that referees have always had it in for Celtic and that the club never got any 50-50 decisions, and that this situation stretched back over 50 years.
It's the second time McNeill has used his Sun column platform to sing this song, the first co-inciding with his appointment by the club as a Celtic Ambassador.
So much for the Old Bhoy. Next up on the songsheet was Gary Hooper, the recently signed Englishman, who, as a striker, has impressed.
His verse to the old chorus was a new one. Celtic, according to Hooper, are victimsed by referees because they are a big club, and as such are the target for refs who are just itching to give a decision against a big club.
That's a lyric I do not think anyone has ever heard before. The usual verdict, from smaller clubs in England and throughout the world, is in fact the opposite, and that big clubs, with huge and vocal supports, get more than their fair share of the decisions.
There is also another glaring flaw in the Hooper song. A bum note, if you like. It is quite simply, if that were to be the case, then Rangers too would suffer from being a big club against whom referees can't wait to give a decision.
Which is hardly in harmony with all the other songs the Celtic support has been singing for as long as I can remember - just short of the half century of McNeill's recall.
According to what many with Celtic DNA have been saying for all of those years, Rangers have had more than the lion's share of refereeing decisions, while Celtic have had an equal number against them.
Hardly the lyric which Hooper gave a rendition of. In fact, almost the opposite.
When you are writing a musical - as Richard Rodgers and Larry Hart, Cole Porter, and the Gershswin brothers showed, setting the mood for the suspension of disbelief is the key to it all.
Whoever is writing the current words and music for a show which has beeen running for years and has every chance of warbling away for years to come, is off key, and flat.
Sir Alexander Gibson and Sir Henry Wood would not approve

Everyone is getting tired listening to all this playing the victim card. I didnt hear too much of it when Martin O`Neil was there doing well and his club were the major force in the country at that time. It was also very quiet when Strachan won 3 in a row and this begs the question. Do refs only have it in for them when they have a poorer team than Rangers.
You couldnt make it up. Only in the world of Timmy could this be right.
They only moan when they're losing, moan when they're losing...
Celtic FC - Always Cheated, Never Defeated.
Great article Leggo - more power to your wanking wrist (tho' I suspect that the tank may be long dry!)
Why are the sfa not taking celtic to task? The club, in one guise or another, have said not only that a ref is a liar and a cheat, not only that refs have been cheating them for 50 years, but also want referees in general to be scared to give key decisions against them, effectively to carry on cheating, as long as it favours them.
Other clubs have been hauled over the coals for a helluva lot less.
THE only tunes i want to hear emanating from that Terrorist training camp, the SAN GIRA is RULE BRITANNIA or THE DEATH MARCH. Mercifully for the sake of Scottish football and hopefully for the end of the whole sordid institution that is SHAME FC.
Give it a rest
If Celtic FC are so put upon, and referees in Scotland are so biased against them, how did they manage to win 6 out of 10 SPL titles? Teams suffering from biased refereeing don't generally win championships.
Strangely, the 'bias' tends to disappear when they are winning.
They are sick in the head. The whole country can now see them for what they are.
Someone should ask McNeill about "dodgy referees" decision that gave his team the Scottish Cup in 1989....................a RANGERS throw-in,but taken by Roy Aitken.
Billy mcbungle was a shit manager at the tims.christ even ask man city or aston villa fans.what they think of that drunken pish stained old whank
None of the verbal urine that comes out of the sellik minded stands up to any scrutiny at all, not that the mainstream Scottish mhedia is going to do that. The latest deranged ramblings of Hooper are testament to that. So many lies, untruths, contradictions and assertions that are not backed up by anything resembling a fact makes him and his puppet masters look evermore ridiculous. Only in Scotland.

Martin O'Neil said "Celtic need to be much better than the rest to win the league, just being better is not good enough."
Mr Stein said similar, you could hardly accuse those two of sure grapes.
I think their 9IAR must be a myth then. Or their 42(i think) league titles:-)
Sellik have never lost a game fair and square to anyone. No team is ever better than Ra mitey Sellik.
Always a dodgy ref or a cheating opponent or a bolt of lightning at the wrong time.
Or maybe they have to realise that God isn't one of them :-)
Its all getting a bit tired & boring now, Timothy!
Get in the real world.
O`Neil was the master of mind games. He also said that Rangers were the benchmark for his team then beat them 6-2. Stein was always the mind games expert as well and played the victim card again. Both good managers and but fitted in with the Celtic mentality.
why dont Rangers as a club challenge Celtics accusations as they are basically saying that they have won all their trophies through cheating and conspiracy ??
This has gone on far too long .. and for what ?? MacDonald not giving a penalty in an incident that wasn't a penalty ?? and Willie Collum giving a penalty for rangers ?? Haha they must be pulling their hair out as it is very hard to accuse Collum of being a member of their fictional 'establishment' which exists only in their paranoid minds .
Very little in response to McNeill's ridiculous assertion that Celtic have been victim to institutional refereeing bias for over fifty years. McNeill should be ashamed of himself...and YOU David Leggat should be ashamed of your continuing campaign to have this BITTER & TWISTED old GIT made a Knight of the Realm for his services to sport !!
i'm up for parole soon mark,i heard you have a nice wee earner sitting on the rst board and fleecing those thick supporters that will keep us in lube and jaffa cakes for months!
william beggs
i never heard mcneill complain when his team won 9 in a row. whinging old bawbag.
Here is a question that no one has asked yet. With reference to Assistant Ref Craven!
If there was a conspiracy against Celtic as they believe, then I am assuming that the first question that would ahve been asked to him by the reporter that told his story was......Is there a bias against Celtic, because he must have been in the middle of it and is there a bias towards Rangers? Both questions must have been asked and both must have been answered NO.
Celtic won nine in a row, and under GS won three championships in a row. If there was a bias you cannot possible tell me or anyone else of a sane mind that this would have been allowed to occur.
Every other football supporter across the country and beyond are laughing at Celtic for their behaviour.
Why must he have answered "no"?
Craven said he was marked down once because Broadfoot got booked in a game and he said he was marked done cause McManus wasn't sent off in a game.Message seems clear.Don't book rangers players and send off Celtic players or you will be marked down.
Good to see Celtic completely vindicated recently anyway.
dont know where to start this is pissing me off, selective memory should i say why is it if youve got anything to do with seltic fc you cant remember any thing that went for you, for over 50 yrs weve had the victim and religion card played everytime it suits their agenda can i also add how come thats four times seltic fans have threatened the lives of officials and once again swept under the carpet by the seltic press, the facts are out there for everyone to see since the league started setic have had more pens than gers and less red and yellow cards than gers but how come the refs hate them or do they i have to add the fact the spl has fixed the league for the last decade to benefit seltic fc just so they dont get death threats or windows put in.
