David Leggat - giving it to you straight

GENTLEMEN PLEASE!

WHEN I lanuched this blog a couple of weeks ago, one of the things I looked forward to was hearing from you.

And, if you recall, after asking  you to post your comments, I made a plea for good behaviour. For reasoned remarks. For views untainted by blind bigotory.

I have never had any problem with people who don't share my own views. Jeez I've even got a buddy who, at best ,could be described as an anarchist. And a few pals, who claim to be music lovers, but who are into that pathetic three chord trick called rock 'n roll. And me an old jazzer.

But what I find hard to tolerate is intolerance. If you see what I mean. Unfortunately there have been a few comments posted which fall well short of heeding the advice I mentioned, which my old Grandad once gave me....

KEEP THE PARTY CLEAN!

Now I know not everybody thinks Jim Baxter was the best player who ever played for Rangers and Scotland.

And there are many out there  who have failed to favour my long running campaign for Billy McNeill to be knighted.

What I do know though is this..... it would be a queer old world if we were all the same. If we all believed in the same things, liked the same players and listened to the same music.

In fact, if there is anybody out there who agrees with everything I write, then allow me to advise them to see a doctor. Don't delay!

So keep on sending me your comments. But maybe those of a green and white persausion can accept there have been some pretty good players who have worn the Rangers jersey, while, those on the other side of the great divide can acknowledge there have been a few good 'uns in green and white.

Gentlemen .....and ladies, do not devalue by ill disciplined ranting or intemperate language, any points you may wish to make, either in favour of what I have written, or in taking me to task.

However, when it comes to the matter of Jim Baxter being the greatest player ever for Rangers and Scotland, it isn't worth anyone's time putting forward a contrary view. I'm not listening.

Fully take on board your request David and understand the need to keep things civil. My only concern is in regards to "Raselliksupporter". Here we are dealing with an animal who cannot reason, who cannot sustain coherent discussion without displaying paranoiac and mopish tendencies before falling into full blown abuse. A species so delusional that they really do think they are TGFITW and they have a team full of world-beaters.

That apart - bring on the discussions.

David,
Apropos your epistle re bigotry, I'd be interested to hear your opinion on this:

This is the esteemed Celtic manager at his best.

I agree with and can handle "the Truth" Having posted many different thoughts on many different football sites I have come to the conclusion that they are mainly inhabited by folks who "don't go out much" and don't have much face time with other humans.
Any disagreements quickly resort to namecalling and accusations of bigotry etc.
I would love to know what a phsycologist would make of this. Freedom and relative anonymity on the internet has taken free speech to an impossibly high level where things can be openly said without any rationality at all.
Having perused many football websites I 100% agree that it is mainly "Raselliksupporter" openly show aggression to just about anyone who is not them (posting Rangers' players home addresses and suggesting that they be paid a "visit" was a cracker), continually ignore facts, and try their utmost to blacken Ranger's name especially.

Baxter..............now he was a Player. If I roll back the years to the early 60`s I can fondly recalling heading to Fergusons Bakery in Calder Street Coatbridge but not for their well renowned savoury pastries of Scotch Pies , Bridies etc., it was all about hanging about at the house next to the bakery. Why.....well a certain Jim , Jimmy , Stanley , Yin Poon Blin Baxter was courting Mr.Ferguson`s daughter Jean at the time ! Every time his Green MG 1300 came round the corner I was there in a flash autograph book in hand , chin resting on my chest and eyes wider than the diameter of the famous pies on offer from the bakery shop below. No matter how many times I asked the book was duly signed by Fife`s favourite son until one night he said " why do you want my autograph again wee man....you got it last night and the night before & the night before that ? " I summoned up all my courage and managing to stop my 9 year old lip from quivering replied " Cos....Cos....Cos....YOU`RE THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD ! " And to me, he was & always will be ! Just simply sensational. Baxter was quite simply a genuis !
